What is a Portable Air Conditioner? How does it work?

Portable air conditioners are standalone units that provide cooling for specific areas or rooms. They consist of a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and a fan. They work by extracting warm air from the room, cooling it through the refrigeration cycle, and then releasing cool air back into the space. The hot air is typically vented out through an exhaust hose that can be placed near a window or another suitable outlet.

How to Choose a Portable Air Conditioner

There are several factors to consider when choosing a portable air conditioner. The starting point is cooling capacity (measured in BTUs or kW), which should always match the size of the room you want to cool. Other factors include energy efficiency, noise level, additional features such as programmable timers and remote control, and the overall build quality and reliability of the unit. Power (BTU and kW vs. Room Size)

The cooling power ise measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units) or in kiloWatts. As a general guideline, the choice of BTUs and kWs must be based primarily on room size: higher BTU ratings and higher kW for larger rooms and lower ratings for smaller spaces. However, it's important to note that other factors, such as insulation and heat sources, can influence the cooling requirements.
For rooms up to 85m3 you can choose an element with around 9000 BTU or 2 - 2,5 kW. For bigger spaces, up to 100m3, better to choose units from 9000 to 12000 BTUs (2,6 to 3 kW). Some of De'Longhi most powerful units can reach up to 13000 BTUs (3,3 kW) and are suitable for areas bigger than 120m3.

Heating Function and Dehumidification Function

The dehumidification function helps to remove excess moisture from the air, improving comfort and reducing the risk of mould growth. This function can be used, for example, in a very humid room or at certain times of the year when the humidity is particularly high. The heating function, available on the De'Longhi PAC EL92HP, allows the appliance to provide warmth during the colder months, making it a versatile appliance that can be used all year round.

Ruído

Os níveis de ruído podem variar consoante os modelos e é importante escolher uma unidade com um nível de ruído que seja tolerável para a utilização pretendida, especialmente caso o aparelho de ar condicionado se destine a ser utilizador em quartos de dormir ou outras áreas sossegadas. Como instalar um ar condicionado com mangueira externa?

A instalação de um ar condicionado portátil com uma mangueira externa é muito simples: a mangueira de exaustão tem de ser devidamente ligada à unidade e dirigida para uma janela ou abertura de ventilação adequada. A configuração da unidade inclui a fixação da mangueira no devido lugar e garantir uma boa vedação, para impedir que o ar quente entre na divisão.
Primeiro, selecione uma localização adequada para o ar condicionado portátil, perto de uma janela ou porta, e coloque a unidade numa superfície plana e estável, de preferência, perto de uma tomada elétrica.
De seguida, ligue a mangueira de exaustão à parte de trás do aparelho de ar condicionado (regra geral, encaixa numa porta específica) e estenda a mangueira na direção na janela ou porta.
Depois, ligue a outra extremidade da mangueira ao kit de ventilação de janela fornecido com a unidade.
