What is a Portable Air Conditioner? How does it work?

Portable air conditioners are standalone units that provide cooling for specific areas or rooms. They consist of a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and a fan. They work by extracting warm air from the room, cooling it through the refrigeration cycle, and then releasing cool air back into the space. The hot air is typically vented out through an exhaust hose that can be placed near a window or another suitable outlet.

How to Choose a Portable Air Conditioner

There are several factors to consider when choosing a portable air conditioner. The starting point is cooling capacity (measured in BTUs or kW), which should always match the size of the room you want to cool. Other factors include energy efficiency, noise level, additional features such as programmable timers and remote control, and the overall build quality and reliability of the unit. Power (BTU and kW vs. Room Size)

The cooling power ise measured in BTUs (British Thermal Units) or in kiloWatts. As a general guideline, the choice of BTUs and kWs must be based primarily on room size: higher BTU ratings and higher kW for larger rooms and lower ratings for smaller spaces. However, it's important to note that other factors, such as insulation and heat sources, can influence the cooling requirements.
For rooms up to 85m3 you can choose an element with around 9000 BTU or 2 - 2,5 kW. For bigger spaces, up to 100m3, better to choose units from 9000 to 12000 BTUs (2,6 to 3 kW). Some of De'Longhi most powerful units can reach up to 13000 BTUs (3,3 kW) and are suitable for areas bigger than 120m3.

Heating Function and Dehumidification Function

The dehumidification function helps to remove excess moisture from the air, improving comfort and reducing the risk of mould growth. This function can be used, for example, in a very humid room or at certain times of the year when the humidity is particularly high. The heating function, available on the De'Longhi PAC EL92HP, allows the appliance to provide warmth during the colder months, making it a versatile appliance that can be used all year round.

Energieverbruik

Mobiele airconditioners hebben meestal een energie-efficiëntieklasse die hun energiebesparende capaciteiten aangeeft, zodat gebruikers een geïnformeerde keuze over hun efficiëntie kunnen maken. In Europa wordt de energie-efficiëntie van mobiele airconditioners meestal aangegeven door het Europees energie-efficiëntiecertificaat. Dit certificaat gebruikt een schaal van A+++ (meest efficiënt) tot D (minst efficiënt). Landen zoals de Verenigde Staten en Australië gebruiken hun eigen labelsysteem voor energieverbruik, zoals respectievelijk de Energy Star-beoordeling en het Energy Rating Label. Door modellen met een hogere energie-efficiëntie te kiezen, kun je jouw elektriciteitskosten tot een minimum beperken en de milieu-impact van hun gebruik verminderen.

Hoe installeer je een airconditioner met externe slang?

Het installeren van een mobiele airconditioner met een afvoerslang is heel eenvoudig: de afvoerslang moet op de juiste manier op het apparaat worden aangesloten en naar een geschikt raam of ventilatieopening worden gericht. Bij het installeren van het apparaat moet de slang goed op zijn plaats worden vastgezet en afgesloten, zodat er geen warme lucht de kamer in wordt geblazen.
Kies eerst een geschikte plek voor de mobiele airconditioner, in de buurt van een raam of deur. Plaats het apparaat op een vlakke, stabiele ondergrond, liefst in de buurt van een stopcontact.
Sluit vervolgens de afvoerslang aan op de achterkant van de airconditioner (deze past doorgaans op een daarvoor bestemde uitgang of uitlaat) en leidt de slang in de richting van het raam of de deur.
Sluit vervolgens het andere uiteinde van de slang aan op de raamventilatiekit die bij het apparaat is geleverd.
