What is a Portable Air Conditioner? How does it work?

Portable air conditioners are standalone units that provide cooling for specific areas or rooms. They consist of a compressor, condenser, evaporator, and a fan. They work by extracting warm air from the room, cooling it through the refrigeration cycle, and then releasing cool air back into the space. The hot air is typically vented out through an exhaust hose that can be placed near a window or another suitable outlet.

How to Choose a Portable Air Conditioner

There are several factors to consider when choosing a portable air conditioner. The starting point is cooling capacity (measured in BTUs or kW), which should always match the size of the room you want to cool. Other factors include energy efficiency, noise level, additional features such as programmable timers and remote control, and the overall build quality and reliability of the unit. Some portable air conditioners also come with additional features such as heating and dehumidification. In our shop you can easily compare all our Pinguino models before making a decision.

Puissance (BTU et kW en fonction de la taille de la pièce)

La puissance de refroidissement est mesurée en BTU (British Thermal Units) ou en kiloWatts. En règle générale, le choix des BTU et des kW doit être basé principalement sur la taille de la pièce : des BTU et des kW plus élevés pour les grandes pièces et des BTU et des kW moins élevés pour les espaces plus petits. Toutefois, il est important de noter que d'autres facteurs, tels que l'isolation et les sources de chaleur, peuvent influencer les besoins de refroidissement.
Pour les pièces allant jusqu'à 85 m3, vous pouvez choisir un élément d'environ 9 000 BTU ou de 2 à 2,5 kW. Pour les espaces plus grands, jusqu'à 100 m3, il est préférable de choisir des appareils de 9000 à 12000 BTU (2,6 à 3 kW). Heating Function and Dehumidification Function

The dehumidification function helps to remove excess moisture from the air, improving comfort and reducing the risk of mould growth. This function can be used, for example, in a very humid room or at certain times of the year when the humidity is particularly high. The heating function, available on the De'Longhi PAC EL92HP, allows the appliance to provide warmth during the colder months, making it a versatile appliance that can be used all year round.

Noise

Noise levels can vary between models, and it's important to choose a unit with a noise level that is tolerable for the intended usage, especially if the air conditioner will be used in bedrooms or other quiet areas. Look for models that feature a low-decibel operation or include noise-reducing technologies.
